{"id":468,"date":"2023-05-30T06:20:32","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T10:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dbtricks.com\/?p=468"},"modified":"2023-05-30T06:28:07","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T10:28:07","slug":"oracle-client-installer-crash-during-installation-on-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtricks.com\/?p=468","title":{"rendered":"Oracle Client Installer crash during Installation on Windows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An old solution to&nbsp; a new problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When running &nbsp;&nbsp;an Oracle client (19 in my case) installation on a windows 2019 server, the installation opened a new command window and immediately crashed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After taking a video of the crash I was able to see that the message was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Starting \u00a0Oracle Universal Installer ..<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Checking monitor: must be configure to display at least 256 colors Higher than 256. Actual 4294967296 Passed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\\Users\\{username}\\AppData\\local\\temp\\ \u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please wait \u2026 Error: Unable to access jarfile C:\\{installer directory}<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google provided little help until I remembered the solution described in my own post from 14 years ago (<a href=\"https:\/\/dbtricks.com\/?p=65\">OUI.EXE has stopped working on Windows 2008<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, The simple solution to &nbsp;many Oracle Installer problems is <strong>Copying the installer directory to a location with a short path and no spaces in the directory path<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example \u201cC:\\temp\\\u201d&nbsp; instead of \u201cC:\\Users\\username\\Downloads\\oracle installer downlod\\setup.exe\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, 14 years have passed, Windows 2008 is now Windows 2019 and this weird bug is not fixed.
